On June 19, 2023, the ZAMCELCO Energy Recovery Team (ERT) was conducting a roving inspection at Brgy. Canelar for the anti-pilferage campaign. The crew conducted a pole-to-pole and house-to-house inspection to determine potential electricity theft or unauthorized electrical system alterations. During this time, a concerned individual called the ERT team leader to report that a man was seen illegally connecting electric wiring at Caburihan Drive.
Immediately, the Team Leader of ZAMCELCO ERT, assisted by the Alert Team of Police Station 11, went to the area, and when they arrived at the portion of Caburihan Drive, a male later identified as Roel Tayros y Sarabia was caught in the act of connecting an illegal direct connection of an unregistered account of ZAMCELCO’s metering outfit. Furthermore, the suspect is currently being held at Zamboanga City Police Station 11 awaiting the filing of relevant charges in court.
The accused was brought before the Office of the Prosecutor about 11:00AM on June 20, 2023, and a case for violation of Republic Act 7832 had already been filed against him.
WARNING TO THE PUBLIC: The Management will take legal actions and will file a case to all the pilferers who are proven to have committed pilferage acts – tampering of meters, direct tapping, flying, and other illegal connections, as the New ZAMCELCO is serious about the implementation of the Anti-Pilferage Campaign under the Republic Act 7832.
